Market Harborough rail accident

The accident occurred when a vehicle driven by Simon Handy plunged off the A6 near Market Harborough, Leicestershire on the morning of 22 March 2005.
The car was hit by the 05:21 Sheffield to London St. Pancras Midland Mainline service that was carrying about 100 passengers. Mr Handy managed to escape from his car before the train hit with only minor facial injuries and was taken to Kettering General Hospital.
The train was due to stop at Market Harborough and as a result hit the car at around only 75 mph, not causing it to derail. No injuries were reported on the train.
Mr Handy admitted careless driving at Market Harborough Magistrates Court on the 26 July and was fined £200 and banned for nine months.
